The central government has made significant changes in the rules for hoisting the Indian National Flag under the 'Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign' ahead of Independence Day - Indian Flag Code 2002 has been amended this week and now we can hoist the flag in our homes at any time under the 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' celebration to comemmorate the 75 years of Indian Independence from 13th to 15th August. Earlier, the tricolour was allowed to be flown from sunrise to sunset, irrespective of weather conditions.

Now clause (xi) of paragraph 2.2 of Part-II of the Flag Code of India, 2002 shall be read as: (xi) “where the Flag is displayed in open or displayed on the house of a member of public, it may be flown day and night”. Earlier an amendment made in December 2021 said, “The National Flag shall be made of handspun and hand woven or machine made, cotton/ polyester/ wool/ silk khadi bunting.”
