Like several developing countries, dental and oral health in our country is often overlooked. Over the past few decades, health in India oral health has not been given much priority. Oral diseases are a burden and often among the rural population. According to estimates, about 50% of school children are suffering from dental caries and more than 90% of adults have periodontal diseases. Oral cancer is also a major problem in our country, which can be attributed to its high intake of both smoked and smokeless tobacco products.

In the past few years, the problems are  being recognized by health professionals across the country and many such professionals like Dr. Peeyush Dixit are going above their call of duty to not only provide treatment but also generate public awareness among the masses regarding preventative measures.

Dr. Dixit is an alumni of Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Saraswati Vidya Mandir Inter College in Uttar Pradesh. After completion of his schooling , he did his BDS degree from Sardar Patel Post Graduate Institute of Dental & Medical Sciences, under Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia University in 2007. Presently he is practicing as Dental  surgeon in  Lakhimpur Kheri.

Apart from treating patients from the various strata of the society, his concern for oral health negligence among the general public , especially among young school going children has led him to participate in several health camps and events aimed at growing public awareness regarding the importance of preventive oral care. In his free time he is often found treating patients free of cost at these camps.

Speaking about the inspiration behind his work, Dr. Dixit mentioned that from an early age he has known the importance of public service. He also stated that his school and teachers have had a considerable influence in the development of his thought process. It is the values that he had learned from his school that gives him a moral boost to work for the betterment of the society.

As a parting advice, he stated that everyone should give importance to oral health and hygiene and get regular checkups by oral health professionals if possible.

Vidya Bharati thanks  Dr.  Peeyush Dixit for taking out time and sharing his thoughts with the Vidya Bharati community.
