Dr. Mohneesh Gehlot, is an alumnus of Hanwant Adarsh Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary Lalsagar, Jodhpur, Rajasthan. He is a dentist by profession with an affinity towards community service. Following  is a short excerpt from a telephonic conversation with him:

Interviewer : What is the story behind your journey towards becoming a dentist ? How are you involved with community service?

Dr. Mohneesh : I sat for an exam and got selected at Jodhpur Dental College and General Hospital. Presently I am running a clinic of my own for the past  7 years. I have always wanted to give back to the society, in whichever way I can. So every year I give free treatment in rural areas of Mandore and Jodhpur. During my work, I deal with patients who are suffering from oral cancer, oral ulcer, cavity and hygiene problems. Such diseases are more prevalent among the rural population due to lack of knowledge about oral hygiene, as well as addiction to 'gutka' or 'biri'.

It gives me immense satisfaction to witness the positive impacts of these medical camps. People have become more aware about oral health and come for regular check ups as well. At present I am doing MPH in Public Health so that I can understand and help others more effectively.

Apart from medical camps, I am also associated with an old age home ‘Anubandh’ in Mandore Jodhpur. As a doctor I provide free medical services to this Vridha ashram.

Interviewer : What role has Vidya Bharati and your school played in shaping your life?

Dr. Mohneesh : Vidya Bharati made me familiar with my country’s rich culture and heritage. It taught me the moral values of life that made me wise and be kind towards others. I start my day with the recitation of ‘Gayatri mantra’ and I taught my child to chant the same in the morning. It inspires us to be selfless in life. I try to live by the lessons taught to me by my school and extend the same values to my children.

Interviewer : What has inspired you to stay connected to your school and Vidya Bharati in spite of having a busy schedule?

Dr. Mohneesh : I am really thankful that I have got a chance to stay connected with Vidya Bharati. My family have a good relationship with my school Principal and we are quite close. We often discuss regarding issues and problems concerning the school. Frequent alumni meets at our school also makes it easy to stay in touch with my friends and classmates.

Interviewer : What would be your message?  (for your school,Vidya Bharati and the students)

Dr. Mohneesh : To the students my message would be - never forget the teachings that has been taught to you by your school. Always respect your elders.Take inspiration from your teachers and positive aspects of our culture.

To the school my message would be -  The alumni should be more engaged, so that we all can stay connected with our school.

To Vidya Bharati my message would be - create such an organization, which will connect all of us with our motherland without any discrimination.

Vidya Bharati Purv Chatra Parishad thanks Dr. Mohneesh Gehlot for sharing his inspirational thoughts with the alumni community.
