“Seeing the smile of a healthy child is one of life’s most profound experiences” -  Dr Pranay Smriti

A dreadful personal experience  led Dr Pranay Smriti, to become a Pediatrician with a self imposed vow of keeping  as many children healthy as possible. The alumnus from Rambagh Basti U.P, speaks about his experience and motivation behind his work.

Interviewer:  Why you chose to become a Pediatrician by profession?

Dr Pranay Smriti: A distressing childhood experiences lead me to take up pediatrics as a profession.  When I was young, my brother due to bad diet suffered from severe food poisoning, so much so that he became violently ill and had to be hospitalised. After visiting several hospitals and almost losing him due to lack of proper health care, one of the senior doctor was able to treat him properly. His caring and reassuring attitude provided much relief in the stressful situation. This experience left me with a burning desire to help as many children as possible, so  that no other family has to suffer how mine did.

Interviewer: What kind of social work are you associated with?

Dr Pranay Smriti: Along with being a full time pediatrician, for the past eleven years  I have regularly organised medical camps for children and pregnant women where I make them aware of different policies, schemes and privileges provided by the government for them. Training are also given to pregnant women regarding the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and avoiding potentially harmful situations during this crucial period. It is alarming to witness how lack of proper knowledge leads to high maternal and child mortality rate in our country.

Interviewer: What makes you spend so much effort helping expectant women?

Dr Pranay Smriti: Seeing the smile on their faces and hearing the laughter of their healthy children make each and every effort worthwhile. I feel blessed to be in this profession and am thankful to God for giving me the opportunity to help others.

Interviewer: Did your school have any impact on your life?

Dr Pranay Smriti: My teachers and school has a great contribution in my personal development. The ‘Sanskars’ that I have received during my school days helped me to view life in a more positive light.

Interviewer: Do you have a message for Vidya Bharati students?

Dr Pranay Smriti: Yes, I would like to tell them to always have faith in themselves and their teachers, because their school will never let them down.
