Dr Rajmohan P R, working towards safeguarding tribal health with the help of Ayurveda

As per 2011 census, the tribal population in India is 10.43 crore, constituting 8.6% of the total population. Belonging to some 705 different ethnic groups, Indian tribal communities are scattered across 30 States and Union Territories of India, having diverse cultural and life practices. Tribal population mostly inhabit rural or remote areas and is among the most vulnerable marginalized section of the society, lagging behind others in several social, health and developmental parameters.

Dr Rajmohan P R. (BAMS, PGD Panch., PGD OSIM), an ayurvedic doctor by profession and alumnus of Vyasa Vidya Peethom, Kallekkad Kerala, has been working diligently in the field of tribal health in association with Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission Hospital, Muttil, Wayanad, Kerala for several years. Dr. Rajmohan P R, is one of the executive members of this institution, which organises free medical camp once a month for the tribal population near Wayanad ,like Kalpetta, Panamaram and Manathavady.

These camps are huge success and draws over 300 patients each month for free checkups, and treatment of sickle cell anaemia disease, which is a genetically inherited disease, found among the resident tribal population. Specialized doctors along with paramedical staff are responsible for providing treatment during the camp. Apart from medical treatment, the organisation also provides skill development training to the tribal population.

Dr Rajmohan P R, who is Founder and Director of Brahma Kalpam Ayurvedic Hospital (Est: 2005), Padivayal, Wayanad, joined Ayurvedic Medical Association of India in 2007.He became its District secretary in (2012), Zonal president in (2015) and finally went on to become state secretary in (2016). He was honored with Margadarshi award, from Jayendra Saraswathi Ayurveda college Chennai for his exceptional work. He was also responsible for treatment of former president of India Sri K. R. Narayanan, while he was working in Shanthigram Ayurveda Hospital New Delhi.

Dr Rajmohan P R is an inspirational human being who is using the ancient Indian art of ayurveda for treatment of people belonging to one of the most marginalised sectors of society. HeĀ  gives credit to his school for making him realise the importance of helping others who are less fortunate than him.
