Located in the bustling city of Guwahati in the northeast Indian state of Assam, Sankardev Sishu Vidya Niketan, Beltola, is a peaceful oasis of quality education. Established in the year of 1994 in a rental building with mere 10 to 12 students, the school has grown exponentially over the years.
Built on approximately 2 bigha land, the four storeyed school has come a long way since its humble beginnings. Presently more than 760 students receive their education from 39 teachers in the school. The classes range from ‘Ankur’ to class 10 and follow the curriculum of Assam Board of Secondary Education. The institution has all the required facilities such as computer and science labs, well stocked libraries and an upcoming mathematics lab.
While talking about the high quality education provided the school, principal, Sri Parameshwar Barpujari ji proudly stated that in the year 2005, one of the students, B. Sharma gained 20th rank in the state in the 10th board examination and has become a successful doctor. Another student, Manas Pritam Ghosh, ranked 10th in the state in the year 2013. Presently he is working as a lecturer.
Following the main motto of all Vidya Bharati schools, all the students receive not only quality education but also are encouraged to participate in extracurricular and social service activities. Sports, cultural events and science exhibitions are part and parcel of the school curriculum.
The students are groomed to be socially responsible from their early childhood and taught through exemplary activities. The school frequently organises blood donation camps where alumni, teachers and parents all participate enthusiastically. Few years back on the occasion of silver jubilee of the school, a similar blood donation camp was organised, which received the highest donation of blood units from a single camp in the entire Guwahati area.
During the recent Covid 19 related pandemic, the school along with the alumni made arrangements to distribute more than 2000 packets of food and essential commodities among the neighbouring needy families.
When asked about any problems faced by the school, Sri Parameshwar Barpujari ji stated that there is always scope for improvement. In the future they want to provide better lab facilities for the children, as well as constructing an auditorium, so all students can attend their morning prayers together. But in spite of all constraints the school has received immense support from the guardians of the students as they feel that their children can grow into ideal and socially responsible citizens only under the guidance of the school.
