Spanning over a decade, Dr Rajeev Tripathi, an alumnus of Saraswati Shishu Mandir Sr. Sec School, Subhas Chandra Bose Nagar, Suryakund, Gorakhpur, has had a long and illustrious career. He has worked as lecturer at some of the well-known colleges extending over several states and now runs his own dental clinic in his home town. Not only he has had a noteworthy career, he is associated with social service as well.

Dr. Tripathi, a dental and oral surgeon, started his academic journey at Vidya Bharati school where he had studied from primary to 10th and then shifted to Mahatma Gandhi Inter College Gorakhpur, from where he completed his 12th. He continued to complete his B.Sc degree with specializations in Biology, Chemistry and Botany. After graduation he sat for Uttar Pradesh Medical examination (UPCPMT) and then did his B.D.S (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) degree from Santosh Medical College in Ghaziabad.

After completion of his medical degree, he started his professional career in the same college as a lecturer where he served for 2 years. Then he shifted to greater Noida where he got the opportunity to work in the illustrious ‘Sharda University, School of Medical Sciences and Research’ as a lecturer in Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics department. Along with that he had been associated with several medical colleges as faculty member and surgeon, extending over western UP region, Noida, Ghaziabad and Faridabad. He also was in charge of organizing health camps in these areas. In 2006 he returned to Gorakhpur and served as Sr. lecturer in ‘Purvanchal Institute of Dental sciences’. He also started his own private practice in the same year where he has been serving the community till now.

Apart from his services professionally, Dr. Tripathi often associates himself with organisation of medical camps in the nearby villages, where the poor are treated free of cost and provided with not only oral treatment, but the team of doctors treat eye problems as well look into mother and child health. Regular camps are also held for students in schools and colleges.  He is a man who believes in helping others in need and often found to be treating patients for free, who are not in position to pay for treatment.

When asked about the reason behind taking up dental care as his chosen field of study, Dr. Tripathi shared that he had always wanted to serve the society through health care. He also noticed the growing trend in dental cosmetology which promised ample scope. Apart from cosmetology, India faces a huge problem due to tobacco addiction, often causing oral cancer among the population. Thus he made dentistry as his chosen profession. In fact he suggested that Vidya Bharati students who are interested to take up health care as profession, can look into dentistry as a viable option. He further advised that interested students should start preparing for their entrance examinations well in advance.

Dr. Tripathi comes from a joint family who are all associated with public service through their chosen professions. His father was an Indian Railway officer and one of his uncle is an Ayurvedic doctor who has dedicated his life to serve villagers. Thus he grew up in a family looking up to great role models. His own brothers and sisters are also Vidya Bharati alumni, and his wife is a doctor as well.

Speaking about his experiences as a Vidya Bharati student, Dr. Tripathi explained that the values, discipline, and cultural knowledge provided by his school has helped him shape his personality positively and would want to enroll his children in Vidya Bharati school, so that they can have the same experience. He also mentioned that he is in touch with his school and would love organise health camps in school premises as well.

Before ending the interview, Dr. Tripathi, urged Vidya Bharati students to work hard and be prepared to grab all opportunities that life provided. As his father had always told him that ‘Time and Tide- waits for none’, one should be always be ready to take all necessary actions to grasp their goals and dreams.
