In recent years, the incidences of natural disasters in India have gone up considerably. The rise in temperatures has led to an increase in the numbers of storms, floods and droughts. Unlike the West, which is economically better equipped to handle climate change and its repercussions, its countries like India that struggle to bear the brunt  of natural calamities.

Witnessing the need for helping the victims of natural disasters, alumni member Abhishek Nema has set up an organisation along with his like minded friends. Recently he gave a short interview about his experience, which has been given below :

Interviewer :  Kindly tell us something about your academic and professional background

Abhishek Nema :  I did my schooling from Saraswati H.S. School, Narsinghpur, MP. After passing out from school in 2004, I did my graduation from Swami Vivekananda College Narsinghpur and my post graduation from Rani Durgavati Vishwavidyalaya.

Presently I am running my own Jewellery and Gas agency businesses.

Interviewer :  Tell us something about your social work

Abhishek Nema : Since my school days, we have been taught the importance of helping those who are in need.  I have often discussed the same with my friends, but nothing worthwhile came up. In 2018, during the disastrous Kerala floods, we felt that the time was perfect to start something of our own. Thus we started an organisation named Madhur Foundation, through which we were able to raise Rs 78430/ - from Narsinghpur area and donated it to Kerala Chief Minister's Relief Fund.

Apart from contributing to disaster relief funds we also organise voting awareness campaigns, local marathons and cricket matches, in an effort to engage and encourage the local youths. During specific times of the year we also distribute clothes and blankets to the needy.

Interviewer : What inspired you to do social service?

Abhishek Nema : As mentioned earlier, me and most of my school friends always felt the need to help others who were less privileged than us, but nothing concrete came up. In September 2018, we felt that the time was right to start something of our own. So we started the registered foundation in an effort to provide a helping hand to those in need.

Interviewer : Did your school have an impact on your life?

Abhishek Nema :  Yes, I feel that my school has had a major hand towards shaping my personality and hence my life.   Among all others the most important lessons that I have learned from my school is the importance of social service and serving our motherland.

Vidya Bharati Purv Chatra Parishad thanks Mr. Abhishek Nema for taking out time and sharing  his experience with the alumni community.
