Vidya Bharati Alumni Paramananda Padhi, PhD Research Scholar from Pondicherry University shares his story in an interview.

Hailing from Koraput district of Odisha, Mr. Paramananda Padhi is a PhD research scholar in the field of Physics. In a recent interview he talked about the requirements of becoming a research scholar. The brief excerpt of the same is given below.

Interviewer: Please share your academic background.

Mr. Padhi:  From primary to class 10th I have studied at Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir, Koraput and then completed my intermediate studies from KBRC College Cuttack. Since I have always been fascinated by physics, I did B.Sc. Hon. in the subject from Vikram Deb Autonomous College Jeypore. After completion of M.Sc I started doing PhD from Pondicherry University. My research topic is ‘Fluid Dynamics’. It deals with how fluid works in presence of a magnetic field and the changes in fluid behaviour in the presence of the same.

Interviewer: What would you suggest to students who want to do a PhD in the subject?

Mr. Padhi:  The first and foremost step is to develop interest in one’s field of study as it takes a lot of dedication to succeed. After clearing GATE examination, one can opt to study in India or go abroad. Before joining anywhere I would suggest choosing the topic of one’s research.  If someone decides to do research in India, one might not be able to get the exact topic as a lot depends on your teacher guide and one has to be ready to adjust. If someone chooses to have more independence, it is better to move abroad. It is something that I have learnt from personal experience.

Interviewer: Would you like to say something about your school?

Mr. Padhi:  It was due to the sound education that I had received during my school days that has enabled me to carry out my aim of becoming a researcher. I still remember how our mathematics teacher taught us in such a way that we were easily able to grasp the subject. The co-curricular activities were also well developed which helped us to find our interest areas.

 Interviewer: Would you like to give any message to the Vidya Bharati students?

Mr. Padhi:  The only thing I can say to them is to study hard, work smart and develop an interest area in your life. It will help you to structure and bring focus into your life.
