Sagar Kumar Dagur, Vidya Bharti alumnus from Keshav Madhav Saraswati Vidhya Mandir, Senior Secondary School, Kakore, UP is an upcoming  Indian athlete in the sport of Taekwondo. Presently he is representing India at the 8th Fujairah Open International Taekwondo championship, which will be held at Fujairah Sheikh Zayed Sports City, Dubai  from January to February 2020. Participants from over 100 countries will be amalgamating to fight for positions  in different categories.

The road to success for the talented youth hailing from a farming family of Uttar Pradesh has not always been easy. Financial struggle often proved to be a major roadblock in his journey towards his dream, but Sagar never deterred from his aim.

Sagar has always been an ardent sports enthusiast from a very young age and had participated in innumerable competitions and sporting events since his school days. He played his first match in 2013 and was initially trained at his school by Mr. Shameem Khan. Later when he left, Sagar trained by himself. Apart from Taekwondo, Sagar have also competed in other sports as well, such as Wrestling, Kickboxing and Kabaddi.

After completing his schooling, he opted for his graduation in Sports Science from Chaudhary Charan Singh University, which he completed in 2017. While studying he started coaching other students in the sport to support himself financially.

Subsequently, after graduation, Sagar put his heart and soul to prepare for the 2018 Asian games. His hard work paid off and he was able to qualify for the event, but his hopes to represent his country were soon crushed. Due to financial struggle he was unable to participate, in spite of qualifying for the event, but Dagur did not let this setback stop him and continued to fight for his dreams. Finally his persistence paid off and he was able to qualify to represent India at the 8th Fujairah Open International Taekwondo championship in the under 87 weight category.

While talking about his journey, an ecstatic Sagar shared his feeling of pride for being able to represent his country on such a prestigious platform. He further thanked his school and teachers for always supporting his dreams and giving him the opportunity to show his skills at various national level competitions.

Vidya Bharati Purv Chatra is proud of Dagur’s accomplishments and wishes him all the best for the future.
