Service towards the motherland has always been regarded as the highest duty in India. And happy are those whose services are accepted by India, whom we call our Mother. Vikas Singh, an alumnus of Vidya Bharati, in spite of travelling all over the world, more than 300 times, always chooses to return to India and remain a humble servant of his motherland.

Vikas studied in Saraswati Shishu Mandir, Anand Nagar till 5th standard before moving to Nagaji Saraswati Vidya Mandir Sr. Sec, Maldepur, Khoripakar, Ballia, from where he completed his 12th class. He then studied B.Tech in Computer Science from Uttar Pradesh Technical University, Lucknow. Upon completing his B.Tech degree he started working in a private firm to support his family.

“At the time when I completed my B.Tech, my family was in need of financial support. So, I started working in 2007”, shared Vikas.

Vikas is currently the Principal Consultant at SAP, one of the world’s top ERP solution providers of the world. His work took him to more than 35 countries covering all the 7 continents around the globe. “I have travelled abroad more than 300 times since 2009. But the love for my country always drew me back to India”, Vikas shared with a smile.

No matter where Vikas was, his heart was always in India. He thought of helping the needy ones back in his country. Thus by accumulating the exposure he got and the contacts he made while travelling in foreign lands, he started a social initiative to educate underprivileged children. Currently he runs 12 physical libraries in 12 villages of Uttar Pradesh where children can come and study for free. He also runs a girl child education programme where he offers physical as well as virtual classes free of cost.

“I formed a group with my friends and colleagues who reside in various countries and it is through them that we offer virtual classes for underprivileged children. Most of these children do not have a smart phone at home, leave alone a computer. So we have also arranged for a small room and have installed a projector there so that children can come and attend online classes, especially physics, chemistry and mathematics”, shared Vikas.

Vikas is also associated with Dr. Brahma Prakash Singh Memorial Society, which is run by Dr Prem Prakash Singh, who is also an alumnus of Nagaji Saraswati Vidya Mandir Sr. Sec, Maldepur, Khoripakar, Ballia.

Vikas wants to work more for social development. Although he had a great chance to settle abroad, but, he mentions, his attachment with the nation never allowed him to reside anywhere but India.

“It is good to travel to other countries, but one must return to serve the motherland. It is his first duty”, added Vikas.
