Young researcher, Arjun Shukla becomes Guinness World Record Holder

Arjun Shukla, an alumnus of Saraswati Shishu Mandir, Beohari, Madhya Pradesh is a man whose unending thirst for knowledge has gained him innumerable laurels. He is also a Guinness World record holder.

Mr Shukla hails from Beohari in Shahdol district, of Madhya Pradesh and later shifted to Jabalpur for education. He started his educational journey from Saraswati Shishu Mandir, Beohari and got admitted to Govt. Model Science College, Jabalpur, for higher education from where he completed both his B.Sc (Biotechnology) and M.Sc (Zoology) degrees. In 2013, he was awarded with gold medal for topping in his college. 

After doing his masters, Mr Shukla started his research career and earned his doctorate in the year 2019. With the aspiration to provide clean river water to the residents of Jabalpur, he started researching on the flora and fauna of Narmada river. During his research work, he discovered a way to clean the river water without the use of any kind of chemical.

As a part of his research work, Mr. Shukla and his fellow researchers have recorded more than 1000 species of flora and fauna of Narmada river. His work was highly successful and his research paper was covered across more than 100 international papers, as well as in national and international journals.

Due to his hard and dedicated work, Mr Shukla has got his name in the Guinness Book of World Records for receiving more than 50 awards and 18 fellowship honours. 

Apart of  being an outstanding researcher, he has published articles in several journals such as:

  • Bambusicolous fungi: a reviewed documentation - International Journal of Pure and Applied Bioscience

  • Preliminary study of Odonates in south-east region of Narmada Valley, Jabalpur - International Journal of Recent Scientific Research

  • Freshwater Fungal Richness, Their Assessment and Impact on Human Welfare: A Review - International Journal of Science and Research (IJSR)

  • Pollution Assessment using Bioindicator (Odonata and Mollusca) in Narmada basin at Jabalpur: A Developing Smart City - International Journal of Advances in Scientific Research, etc.

 Mr Shukla along with his research guide Dr. Rita Bhandari, Professor, Department of Zoology, OFK College, has also published a book on Narmada and its significance named ‘Narmada, Nadi Nahi sabhyata’.

Mr. Shukla is also a regular attendee of  national/ international conferences, workshops and seminars, where he is called upon to discuss his research topics.

Mr Shukla has received several awards for his work, few of which are as follows:

  • Best Scientist of the Year 2017

  • International Best Scholar

  • Godavari Academy Paryavaran Yuva Gaurav Award 

  • Fellowship of Environment and Social Welfare Award

  • Fellowship of Life Science Award

  • International Research Journal IJSR Award

  • ESW Life Member Award

  • Young Scientist Fellowship Award 2016 and 2017 

  • West Researcher of the Year, 

  • Best Research Paper Award

  • International Young Scientist Award at Delhi

  • ESW Life Member Award

  • Narmada Ratna Award in Uttar Pradesh

  • Environment Shri Award received in Kanpur 

In the year 2017, Mr. Arjun Shukla became the first young awardee with 17 awards. He was also elected as the president of ‘ESW Society Jabalpur Division’.

Mr. Shukla is a true embodiment of talent, hard work, dedication and determination. He is a youth icon and perfect role model for all Vidya Bharati students.
