India has got one of the oldest musical traditions and heritages in the world.Known as ‘sangeet’ in India, the nation’s music has got unique and varied style as compared to other music forms in the world.

Kumari Sruthi who is an alumna of Saraswathi Vidyanikethan Elamakkara, Kochi excelled in the field of music since her school days. Her passion, love and commitment towards music eventually earned her 1st rank in Master of Arts ( Music).

Interviewer : How did you secure 1st rank in M.A Music?

Kumari Sruthi : My parents inspired me to come into the field of music. They supported  my talent and motivated me to join B.A. in Music at RLV College of Music and Fine Arts. It proved to be a turning point in my life. My brother Sarath, who is a talented artist, understands my passion and always guided me during my practices. The teachers of my college and my Guru P A Felix Sir also held my hands to achieve this. It was the blessing of my Guru, prayers of my parents and hard work of my teachers which led me to the world of music and helped me to secure First Rank in both BA and MA in Music.

Interviewer : Name some famous singers that you admire.

Kumari Sruthi : Smt K S Chitra, Late Smt Radhika Tilak, Smt S Janaki Amma and our pride Padmasree KJ Yesudas are my inspiration. In fact,  a meeting with Yesudas sir when I was studying in 8th standard is the best memory I hold till date.

Interviewer : What was the reaction of your parents and teachers when you scored 1st rank?

Kumari Sruthi : It was a moment of sheer  joy and happiness to witness my parents being overwhelmed with my result.  My teachers and my friends also called me up to congratulate me as well.

Interviewer : Who is your inspiration in your life?

Kumari Sruthi : Even though my teachers at RLV College guided me on my path towards this achievement, but my Guru Shri P A Felix Sir has played a significant role as well.

Interviewer : How did your school help you on the path towards success?

Kumari Sruthi : I Studied at Saraswathi Vidyanikethan Elamakkara, Kochi, Kerala. My school’s principal and all the teachers always encouraged me to participate in various programs. They would take out time and give me extra classes whenever I missed school due to my musical programs, for which I will always be thankful to them.

Interviewer : What will be your message to the future students who want to take music as their profession?

Kumari Sruthi : My advice to all the children who want to study music is, treat music as a ‘Tapasya’. You should do it with utmost dedication and sincerity. Anything done with sincerity will always bring happiness, success and joy in life. It may be impossible for all to learn singing, but the music is never limited to learning Karnatic or Hindustani Music. The instruments played with the song have equal importance. Without background music singing is incomplete, so learn any of the instruments, and that too with the same dedication and passion. Keep practicing and you will succeed one day. Remember an artist always lives in the hearts of people. Your goal is to touch the hearts of your audience.

Interviewer : What is your ambition?

Kumari Sruthi : My ambition in life is to become a playback singer and a good human being who can leave a mark in this world.

Vidya Bharati schools have always encouraged its students to follow their dreams, even if they are non academic in nature, with the hope that all of its students can become successful by following their own chosen path like Sruthi.

Vidya Bharati Purv Chatra thanks Kumari Sruthi, for sharing her story with the community. We believe she will be a source of inspiration for other students as well.
