Some generous people are born to serve the community. There is no personal gain except a sense of relief in seeing the smiles of those who are helpless or unaware of their social rights.

The story of Paleshwar Kumar Baghel an alumnus of Saraswati Shishu Mandir Higher Sec. school, Bhilai, Chhattisgarh, follows in the same vein, as the above mentioned lines.

A simple man at heart, Mr. Baghel is a member of Pan India Organization, Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh, a wing of RSS which fights for the rights of mazdoors (unskilled labourers).

Unskilled labourers in India are hard working people, engaged in heavy manual work for more than 10 to 14 hrs a day. Most of them are uneducated and unaware of their basic rights, such as  rights to fair wages and rights to file a claim or complaint, often resulting in unfair exploitation by the others.

According to Indian Statistics, the condition of workers in India, where 71% of the population does not have written job contract, 54% don’t  get any paid leave. Over 57% of workers in rural areas and 80% in urban areas work more than 8 hours per day.

Paleshwar Kumar Baghel has been fighting for labourer rights for the past 2 years, mainly those working in South East Central Railways. The organization consists of 15000 members and works towards educating the labourer members about their basic rights. They often organise meets to demand payment for services rendered by the labourers, who sometimes are not paid for upto 2 years or more.

Mr. Baghel is an example of a true leader whose arena is not limited to mazdoor rights only. He also works for environmental protection, educational rights, feeding the poor and tribal welfare. He is regularly seen working towards spreading basic computer knowledge among tribal (advisai) people of Dangoaposi in Ranchi, Jharkhand.

Paleshwar Kumar Baghel revealed that Vidya Bharati is the source of his inspiration. He feels the important difference between Vidya Bharati and other schools is that Vidya Bharati not only focuses on subject wise knowledge but spreads awareness among the children about Indian culture and the importance of patriotism. It believes in all round development of students, including sports, skill and moral development.

Mr. Baghel’s inspirational journey has made positive impact in the lives of many people.
