Every year thousands of students sit for different competitive examinations for governmental jobs and higher studies. To excel in such examinations dedicated studies and a good mentor or coach is needed. Those who are fortunate enough to be financially stable, can afford to join premier institutes for counselling and guidance, but a lot of talented students find it difficult to pay high rates of such institutes and often struggle year after year. In such a scenario it becomes important for individuals and non governmental organisations to help such aspiring students, so that they can achieve their goals.

Shivam Kashyap, an alumnus of Sankardev Vidya Niketan, Dhekiajuli, Assam, is one such individual who recognised the need of the hour and helps to mentor such individuals. Recently he shared his story with Vidya Bharati Purv Chatra alumni portal team via a short interview which has been summarized below:

Interviewer:  Kindly tell us something about your professional and academic background.

Shivam: I am an alumnus of three Vidya Bharati schools. I have done my primary schooling from class 1 to 5 from Sankardev Vidya Niketan, Mazrowmari and then shifted to Sankardev Vidya Niketan, Dhekiajuli, where I had studied till 10th standard. I did my 11th and 12th from Sankardev Vidya Niketan Anandaram.

After my schooling, I did my graduation in B.Tech in civil engineering from Royal Global University, Guwahati and presently pursuing my M.Tech final year from AEC College, Guwahati.

During my B.Tech, I have also done internships at IOCC in Guwahti for a month and in  PWD for 2 months. These internships gave me  good work exposure and after my  final year I plan to go for a Governmental job or start a business of my own.

Interviewer: You had mentioned being associated with social work. Can you kindly elaborate about the same?

Shivam : From a young age my teachers have taught me to think about others before oneself. The act service is never big or small. As long it helps others, it is worthwhile. Thus I have been associated with several social projects from a very young age, but presently I am collaborating with and the student ambassador of a NGO named ‘Personal Guru’, here in Assam, where I give free classes to students who are preparing for JEE or NEET exams. I know from personal experience, the importance of proper counselling and guidance in a student’s life and feel extremely satisfied to help others by sharing my knowledge with them.

Interviewer:  Do you like to share any message about Vidya Bharati?

Shivam: Like most of the alumni of Vidya Bharati, I feel extremely lucky to be a part of the institution. My school not only gave me a good academic foundation, but also taught me the invaluable lessons of nationalism, social service and all life skills needed to face any situation presented by life. It gave me a depth to my personality and structure to my aims and dreams. I am also thankful to my teachers for patiently guiding me when I needed their advice the most.

Vidya Bharati Purv Chatra Parishad thanks Shivam for sharing his views with the community and wishes him all the best for all his future endeavour.
