Mr. Abhay Singh is a nationalist at heart, who is working towards the development of villages in Barmer district as a Village Development Officer. Recently he spoke about his passion to provide a better lifestyle to the residents of Villages under his authority via a short interview, whose extract is given below.

Interviewer: Please tell us something about your academic and professional background?

Mr. Singh: I am an alumni of Adarsh Vidya Mandir Sec, Harsani , Jodhpur, where I had studied from class 1 till class 9. After completion of my schooling I did my graduation from Rajasthan University (2015). Simultaneously I started preparing for the UPSC examination. Presently I am working as a Village Development Officer in Barmer district of Rajasthan. I have also done a degree in Mass Communication.

As a state government employee, I am in charge of: Arranging the sanitation of village, registering of birth, death and marriages and maintenance of other records as prescribed, assisting the development of agriculture, industries and commerce, child welfare and maternity, arranging and regulating the source of water supply, building roads, implementing the governmental policies, development of primary education, provide work to labourers etc. I am the main representative and there are 4 to 5 others who are working under me. Mostly we are associated with all kinds of development works and look into proper usage of governmental funds. I also act as the secretary of the ‘Gram Panchayat’.

Recently due to the ongoing pandemic, we are making sure that there is no shortage of food, clean drinking water and medical facilities. We have also set up quarantine facilities and a control room as well. Random testing for the disease is also going on.

Interviewer: What made you take up your present field of profession?

Mr. Singh:  I work under the rural development department. As a child we had learnt from our school, the importance of social service, and my present work allows me to help and serve others. Here I get to work with villagers and tribal populations, interact with them, understand their problems and work towards providing them a better lifestyle. As all social work it is immensely satisfying at the end of the day, to work towards development of our nation.

Interviewer: How was your experience at school?

Mr. Singh:  Vidya Bharati, as most of us know provides complete education. Apart from academics a lot of stress is given towards extracurricular activities, which are necessary for personality development. We had school tours, where we got to visit border areas and villages as well as interact with different strata of people. All these develop life skills and leadership qualities, which can only be found in Vidya Bharati schools. I am still in touch with my school and attend events like annual functions.

Interviewer: Please tell us something about your family.

Mr. Singh:  Our family comes from a village in Jodhpur. My family consists of my mother, father, grandparent and my younger brother, who is presently studying in Hindu College.

Interviewer: Apart from your work, where you work for social development, are you associated with any other kind of social work.?

Mr. Singh:  I am always open to help anyone in need and at personal level I try to help anyone who comes to me for such. Sometimes I provide educational material to children in villages as well.

Interviewer: Would you like to share any message with the Vidya Bharati students?

Mr. Singh:  As I have been taught to dedicate my life towards ‘Samarpan and Seva’, I would like to urge all students to remember their moral lessons as well. Always work towards the development of our nation, no matter which career you choose. Live to serve others.
