India has the 2nd largest army in the world, with 1.4 million active  and 2.1 million reserved personnel. It is also the largest volunteer army, illustrating  the feeling of patriotism that is entrenched in every Indian.

One of the main objectives of Vidya Bharati schools is ‘Nation Building’, thus it has always given immense importance in installing the feeling love for one’s country and respect for Indian soldiers among the students.

Taking this sentiment forward, Vidya Bharati is set to open a first of its kind ’Army’ school in  Shikarpur, Uttar Pradesh from April 2020. The main purpose of the school will be to train students to become officers in Indian Armed Forces.

The residential school, which is presently under construction will be named ‘Rajju Bahiya Sinik Vidya Mandir’, after Shri Rajendra Singh.  This school will follow Central Board of Secondary Education syllabus and its first batch will have 160 students. It will consist of classes from 6 to 12. 56 seats will be reserved for the children of martyrs.

Construction of this school  is spread over 20,000 square metre of land donated by former Army man and farmer Rajpal Singh. The land is now part of a newly created trust, named ‘Rajpal Singh Jankalyan Sewa Samiti’. The school will encompass a three-storey building for academics, a three-storey hostel, a dispensary, residence for staff members and a large stadium, the estimated total cost of which is Rs 40 crore. Retired army officers will be helping to develop this school, so that the standard of education and training is of topnotch quality.

Based on the success of this  school Vidya Bharati aims to replicate the same model in other states of India. The objective of the school is to not only give quality education but also train the student in a manner that they can grow up to become individual leaders capable of becoming assets for the Indian armed forces.

It is another unique step taken by Vidya Bharati towards its nation building exercise, with the potential to usher in new positive changes in the education system.
