Everything in the Indian culture is oriented towards the spiritual process, especially music. From the very moment one is born in this land, one may do many things –pursue a career, build family and work at many other aspects of life, but essentially, the life of every Indian is aimed only at elevating the consciousness. So, in India, music had not been just a mode of entertainment, it is a spiritual progress.

Sanjay Singh Mewada, who prefers to be called as Sanjay Singh Rajput, resonate spirituality through his music. Surrendered at the feet of the Lord, he begins to recite:

“Ab saup diya is jeevan ka,

Sab bhar tumhare hatho me

Hai jeet tumhaare haatho mein,

Aur haar tumhaare haatho mein”

After completing his schooling from SaraswatI Vidhya Mandir Higher Secondary School Kalapipal, Sanjay got himself enrolled for a Bacherlor’s degree in Microbiology. While still in in 2nd year of the course, he realised that the only aim of his life was music.

“Once I had gone to listen to a Ram Katha. When I reached the performers were singing verses from Sundar Kand. I got so involved in it that I ended up singing with them in chorus. People loved my voice and I realized I was meant for music”, recalled Sanjay.

Sanjay was never trained in music until 2016, when he decided to drop out of B.Sc. and joined Government Madhav Music Collage Ujjain affiliated with Raja Mansingh Tomar Music and Arts University from where he finally completed his Bachelor’s degree in music. Presently he is in the final year of his Master’s in Music.

“I started to learn music in 2016. Before that I had no idea about sur or taal”, Sanjay mentioned.

Sanjay specializes in Bhakti Sangeet and Bhajans and considers Padmashree Bhajan Samrat Anup Jalota as his Guru. “Like Eklavya chose Dronacharya as his Guru, I chose Anup Jalota ji as mine”, he said with a smile.

For Sanjay music is a tool that reflects the culture of India and love for his country.  “At Vidya Bharati School we were always taught to love India and Her culture. So, I choose Bhakti Sangit and Hindustani Classical music as my specialization and film music”, explained Sanjay.

Sanjay feels connected to the God whenever he sings. Music, for him, is a praise of the Lord and with each tune, he says, he can feel the Divine touch.
